About the Club

The Coral Gables Chess Club was formed just after World War II by Murray Cohen, a real estate broker who lived in the Gables. It's home has always been at the Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center.

Notable players who have played Chess at the Coral Gables Chess Club include:

Bobby Fischer gave an exhibition at the Coral Gables Youth Center in the 1950's at the invitation of Mr. Cohen. Bobby was 13 or 14 years old at the time.
